Auto Update Stock Prices from Yahoo Finance into Google Spreadsheet

We carried out some changes to our Stock Portfolio Tracker. Initially, we thought automating price update daily with stock symbol from Google Finance was a good idea.

Well it turns out that if your stocks do not belong to a few selected exchanges, you would need to update the prices manually.

So we decide to see if we can get automated price update via Yahoo Finance. Turns out that although it’s awkward we were able to.

So now instead of the 2 other option you have a third and an automated one. Go to Yahoo Finance to look up the symbol of your stock. Copy it and input into the corresponding cell under "Yahoo Quote". So every time you load up the Google Stock Portfolio Tracker you can view your latest gains and losses.

We are thankful that through this method we have a larger number of exchanges and stocks supported.

Do highlight to us how we can improve our stock portfolio tracker!

- I copied the whole row 2 - deleted the whole row 2 - and insert back a blank new row 2 - and paste it back

But the row 18th onwards still don't get the yahoo finance price data...

hi Major Market Indices, i think the only formula that matters is only cell A2. click on the cell, cut away the formula, then set the formula again and try.

i am sorry for the inconvenience. i am also trying to see why it is turning out like that when my other google spreadsheet is ok.

Hi Drizzt,

Thanks for creating this online stock portfolio, it's quite a handsfree way to handle a portfolio.

However, do you encounter problem if you have more than 17 stocks on your "stock summary"? From the 18th stock onwards, i realised that you can't get data from yahoo finance, provided you create a new spreadsheet again.

there seem to be something wrong with the "Yahoo Data Ref". It can add more than that. Just go to Cell A2 where the formula is copy the formula, delete cell A2 and repaste it back.

its strange why its like this.
